So, where are all the golf nuts hiding?

I played 18 Friday. Not sure where the scorecard went, wasn't in the cart when I returned it, and wasn't in my jeep. High 80's, I'm guessing. Not the best round but was trying some different things. Playing the ball back of center, etc. Actually produced a few baby draws with the shorter irons. I also decided to keep track of the beers I was drinking on which hole. Clearly got better 2-3 in, then by my 5th on 17 was pretty much hitting about the same as with no beer. (Solo round is usually 2- to 2-1/2 hours) Working midnights until Tuesday morning, then 2-1/2 days off. Gonna play all three days and keep track of the beer intake. Should be interesting. Hopefully I'll make it to the Jeep with the scorecards. Lol
Do you usually play all your clubs in the front half of your stance ?

I’ve got a 645am tee time tomorrow at a course I’ve never played and it’s not exactly close by so I’ll have to be up at the ass crack of dawn in order to make it on time. I’m not a morning person so this should be an interesting round. Heading to the range tonight to hopefully workout some bugs from my last round.

The club I'm a member at doesn't have tee times thankfully but the first we're allowed out is 7am. So if I'm going to play solo on the weekend I'm there at 630 (its 20-25 minutes from home). Nothing like being done and on my way home by 1030am though!

Ill admit it was nice being done early. And a beer at 730am is surprisingly refreshing haha

bahahah!

regarding ball position. My irons (outside of my 3-4 iron) all sit right about center. I do find that the position slowly drifts forward and I start to run into issues. I have to pay closer attention sometimes

I’ve been using the same stance/ball position since the first lesson I got when I first started golfing. Driver in line with inside of left foot (front foot). Each club/ball is incrementally further back all the way until pitching wedge which is inline with inside of my right foot (back). I’m starting to wonder if this is why my shots are going so high and never have any roll once they land.

I did till recently, believing it would give the club more of a chance to close down
I have a tendency to keep all my weight on my back foot and I wonder if moving the ball forward in my stance would help me transition that weight up front and hit down through the ball instead of scooping up at it.

Weight transition is a struggle with me as well.l, especially in longer clubs.
I've been told to hit shots at the driving range and step through the shot to get the correct feeling.
Meaning step forward right after contact with the ball
Never go to the range, so havent tried it out myself.

for me what works are a few different things depending on the day.

- focus on making sure my weight ONLY makes it to the instep of my back foot during my backswing. i usually have to take a few partial backswings fairly slow paying attention to this
- focus my eyeline on the front of the golf ball during my swing. for some reason as long as im looking at the front / front-half of the golf ball my weight shift seems to be far better

i should note - that hanging back is definitely one of my biggest issues that fight. on the days where im able to get my weight shift forward everything works better from wedges up through my driver. on days where I'm struggling I'll probably shoot 1000

Heading to the range in a bit to work on weight transfer and test out this step through the ball method and mess around with ball placement.

I've tried to do the step through and it's tough for me to accomplish - it just feels so wrong.

played Bethpage Red with @Wantacigar yesterday. 5.5 hours later we were done. there was no such thing as getting into a rhythm! I shot 97 and he shot 91 (generously - we both took a few liberties).

It was a great time though with a fellow BOTL and I had a few decent shots that I can look back on. Maybe one day I'll venture out into the Black Course!

Walked 18 today. Didnt keep score, but had three birdies, and my draw showed up today with the short irons. Had a few actually hook. Very weird to see after 9 years of a slice. Noticed quite a bit of added distance on several shots with and against the wind. One par 3 was playing 146 with the wind. Flew the green with a 9 iron (usually a 135 club) then dropped another ball and hit a PW one bounce and off the back of the green as well. Both had baby draws.
Another par 3 was 127 into the wind. First shot with a 9i hooked and cleared the green 20 yds.
I could get used to those distances. Draw isnt on demand quite yet.
Thinking of playing in the 9 hole scramble tonight.

a draw is definitely going to pierce the wind a bit better and gain a bit of distance too. the problem is - you usually have less control with one. they can turn into hooks pretty quick. its why you see most pros taking the small distance loss and playing a fade that they can control easily
