How was it Sunday?
Weather was great and the course surprisingly had no snow and was not overly wet. It was actually in great shape and the greens were rolling fairly decent for no maintenance for 6 months. First round of the year was rough though. I hit irons ok and short game was reasonable but I couldn't hit my driver. I kept coming over the top with my right side and pulling it way left. Hit a few in the water and OB and into tree trouble for punch outs. Probably cost me 10-15 shots. It was great to finally get out. Now to fix that swing.....

Braved the apocalypse and walked a long 18 finally! 38° but shit they finally opened. Managed to literally touch nothing other than a pen to sign my receipt, left all the flags in, etc. played about as I expected for first of the year.

Oh!!!!!! And I found a dollar!!!

Finally got out today - 1st round at my home course. Had to walk and they have foam in the cups but all in all not bad as compared to sitting at home.
Didn't hit the ball very well at all, tripled the last hole for an 87 but at this early point in the season I'll take it.

I'd love an 87 on a bad day :)

haven't been able to sync up an open course, the weather and work yet :( (the weekends have been project passes)

I have however been working on a net setup for my backyard at least.

Got a net - now to work on a hitting surface.

This will be used in the backyard mostly so I need something that works on grass (not flat surfaces necessarily) so I cant just stick any old mat out there. And the ones that would work nice cost $300 or more (the one I really want is about 800 dollars). So instead I'm going to make something. We'll see how this goes because I want to be sure that the turf I use doesn't wear out quickly AND i need to make sure it's not going to hurt my wrists / elbows. I also want to make sure it's got some kind of divot action too. So I'll update this thread when i come up with something. Lots of references on various golf simulator forums.

@mitetak I have this one in the 4x5, love it!!! Tried a few of the cheaper ones, and making my own, failed. They wear out too fast. I know which 800$ one you are looking at. I was on the fence. Bought this instead, no regrets.

So that was on my list - but again my backyard being a mess means that wont even cut it - so what I did was ordered their 124 dollar version (basically with out the extra heavy backing). Ill be putting that on a platform that i can level out. And then building in my divot action probably using some lexan

So, my course is "closed", but open to members, if you know what I mean. Been playing several times a week. In a weird place in my swing. Played for 9 years with a slice. This year, it's pretty common for me to hook everything from a driver to a 9 iron now, but only on occasion. The problem is if I set up for a hook, I usually slice the damn thing in the next fairway. Have no clue what I'm doing to change the swing, but i do know when i hit a good one due to my finishing position. I feel I'm on the path to fixing my lifelong (9yr.) Slice, but not sure what's changing in the swing. Frustrating as hell.
When I do knock one straight, I have hit some of the longest drives I've ever hit.

Be careful when practicing taking divots on a mat. They are way more forgiving than the course. It’s easy to get in trouble with taking way too big in the course. Learned the hard way, even when your divot is in front of the ball.

If you'll note from my previous post I have a plan for that. Normally hitting off mats - you can hit fat shots all the time not know it.

But I'll be accommodating that.

As to scalping your yard for an outdoor hitting mat. How big is it going to be? Won't you have divots everywhere making it hard to hit there a lot?

Sometimes I don’t read so good.

Like 30x20 for now. Sand/topsoil mix to fill divots. I plan on trying to get it like a fair way, with out planting special grass and getting a reel mower. But if that’s what it requires then, ya know. I scalped it, aerated top dressed and seeded it the other day. We shall see

@mitetak I hit in my garage 1-3 days a week too. I figure 1 day a week outside I should have zero issue with divots, but I’ve been wrong before. Just got a sc300 too. Figured the American thing to do was give my stimulus money to China

bahahahah!

I would hit in my garage - but

1) its full of shit
2) its only a 1 car so I'd need to do some sorting out in there to make it work

My hope is someday to get a proper monitor like a skytrak

Samsie. But I’m thinking bigger like trackman

I'd prefer a GC2 (with HMT for indoors use as well) - but yeahhhh who has 10k+ laying around for either of those :)

Skytrak is a good place to start and seems to hold its value well anyways if i ever have the ability to upgrade I can just resell it!

oooh I also golfed last Sunday - first time of the year.

Shot a smooth 97 - with a quad on the last hole.

it was so wet and soft. the walk was TOUGH (flat course too) just slogging around. Golf balls literally disappearing. I pulled three out of the rough that I was super lucky to find as they were entirely embedded.
