first day of the club championship in the last flight. spent yesterday with a GI issue so I'm not feeling great today.

couldn't find my driver on the front 9 and shot a 53. Putting was ok, but ended with two triples and a few doubles. Made the turn with no one in front of us (the groups ahead of us had started on 10 so they finished on 9)

an hour and forty minutes later I closed the back nine with a 43. Yeah I went 53/43. This is a net flight and I'm sitting 7th. The goal is top 6 to make the cut for monday.

We'll see what tomorrow brings. As long as my driver cooperates a bit more I'll be fine

Sunday brought me another day. Shot 50/45. So at least I'm consistent. The 45 should've been MUCH better. I was sitting at 33 after 7 holes with a short par 4 (320) and a par 3 left. I had 50 into the par 4 - wedge on with a 15ft uphill putt. Walked away with a 6 ... yes a four putt. I chunked the par 3 tee shot. Thankfully avoided the water that snakes through the hole. But chunked a wedge, chipped on and then 3 putted that. So hello 45 that should've been a 40ish. And putting wasn't my problem all day (or weekend really).

Ended up fourth in my flight - seven back from the leader going into Monday.

Rains steadily / heavily Sunday night into Monday with the forecast being wet through the day. Good times.

My tee time is 1015 and the rains actually stop around 10am. I show up to the course later than I'd like - my 17yr old stepson woke up at 2am and proceeded to barf all over the bathroom (he didn't make it to the toilet by about 1/2 a step). My wife doesn't do well with barf and this was pretty epic. So needless to say I took a bit longer to get out of bed.

I just get some putting practice in and off we go. Cannot find my driver for the life of me to start the day. Finish the front 9 in 50. Minor miracle really with where I put myself off the tee on nearly every hole.

By now the clouds have started to clear and we're seeing some sun too. I have zero penalties through the first 2.5 rounds. So needless to say I find water on 10 and OB on 11. Took a bogey and a double on those holes, still not bad considering. On 13 I find another hazard. Driver is still nowhere to be found :(

Finish the back 9 with two solid drives (thank god) - one of them on a hole that I never pull driver on (my inconsistency leads to lost of lost balls there if I do). And I par the final hole (another par 3 - yeah both nines finish on par 3s and neither are easy holes).

End up shooting 96 (scores for the three days - 96, 95, 96 - with my course handicap of 18 - means i netted 78, 77, 78). ended up finishing 8 back from the winner and two strokes out of the money (pro shop credit would've been nice)

Got out today for the first time in 16 years. Played bad as expected, but better than I figured. Bogey/Double bogey all day on an easy course. But didn’t embarrass myself to bad.

You guys “sharpen” your club grooves?

Stupid Tapatalk
Sharpening grooves isn’t really a thing technically legal wise. There’s a few products on the market that do it but it’s gimmicky to me. Grooves do wear especially in wedges you should replace them every 2 years for the average golfer and even more if you are in the sand often. You would not believe the difference in it. A iron set should last 4-5 years for a avg golfer, woods and driver 2-3 years and putter imo all about how good your putting with it. Quality clubs and shafts matter they don’t have to be brand new or the best but it will improve your game at any skill level. I’ve had some testing done and I’m our research comparing my current 1 year old driver and this years model with my same shaft and specs. I avged 283 with my current and with this years model I was 285 so I gained a avg of 2 yards so not worth it but when I tested my 3 year old driver and my current driver I gained 12 yards with the head and with my new shaft combo it was 21 yards so in 3 years time it was worth it. Golf is all about technology anymore and imo it’s your friend and to take advantage of it because courses are just gonna get longer and harder as guys hit the ball farther.

There’s a few videos on YouTube of pros hitting old clubs and they can’t hit them for shit compare to modern day.

Played yesterday with the college guys and shot 76 from the tips. Windy as hell had me hitting a huge draw all day which is kinda good because the course really caters to the left side. Had about a 30 foot putt on 8 for eagle that I left 1 foot from the hole that I finished up for birdie. Had about a 320 yard drive on 14 because I landed it about 290 on the left middle of the fairway but it rolled and got on the cart path downhill on the left that it just kept going on till finally stopped in the rough so I only had about 80 yards in, should have been a birdie but made par. Had a real good round.

Played in a tournament at Irondequoit Country Club yesterday. Used to host a Korn Ferry (was Nationwide back then) event. The course has very few flat lies - most of the fairways are canted (and its not consistent in direction), the greens are nuts and the pin placements are stupid. I get over there once or twice a year. Shot my best ever there of a 94. Should've been much better but I ended my day with a triple bogey (got super quick with my driver and had the snappiest of hooks show up into some nearby trees, had a longer 2nd shot than where the tee box was)

Season is winding down up here. For some reason I've gotten real quick on the tee box - lots of tops, shanks, hard slices. It's a weird thing to have show up. I have plenty of distance - I dont need to swing harder/faster. But it's blown up a number of recent rounds. I've also put no range time in so that doesn't help!

Same here. Lots of duck hooks when I'm rushing it, only doing it on the tee though fairway shots seem fine. But up here in the NE every round at this point may be the last of the year.
Hoping to get out Sunday. Last weekend I hit it pretty well, 81-82 ish and I'll take that with those sandy, plugged greens.

Hoping to get a round in this weekend to try out some changes I’ve made at the range. I’ve been working on keeping my takeaways a lot tighter which has really helped with my long clubs but I’ve been blading the shit out of my shorter irons which used to be the more consistent part of my game. About to head to the range now to try and work the bugs out
