So, where are all the golf nuts hiding?

Played 36 holes yesterday. Temps in the high 40's, but absolutely zero wind. Shot a miserable 44-48 first round, and 41-44 the second.
Had a 75 yd hole out on hole #5 for a birdie the second round. (My longest ever) with a 3/4 54* wedge.pretty good for a shitty drive and a shitty second. Hole 17 is a short par 5. Putted for eagle both rounds, just burned the edge of the hole both times.That green is absolutely flat, but is deceiving due to the downhill lie of the land around the green. Both putts were pretty much identical. 30 feet or so left of the hole. Both approach shots were 175yds. Birdied each. Overall, my striking was better than Friday, but not great.
I know @WNYTony doesnt think the temp affects the ball flight much, but it was overcast with intermittent sprinkles all day, and all 4 of us playing remarked about the short distances we were getting. Working 8 straight starting Monday, so I'm done for a while. The new clubs are definitely staying in the bag. And BTW, @mitetak, the clubs were naked all three rounds, and to my chagrin, have small club chatter marks on the edges.

Ball flight is definitely shorter the colder it gets. Spin is also reduced. I personally loose more distance from wearing multiple layers than from the actual ball performance in cold weather though.

Colder temps definitely affects ball distance, I don't know why you think I would disagree with that. We have to deal with that all the time and I agree with @Tyler86 that multiple layers also hurts your swing and distance. I just can't think that it ever actually gets that cold in Texas but you are educating me. Don't bend to the peer pressure - slip some socks on those puppies before the scuffs are enough to affect ball flight

I dont see a ball response difference until im wearing long johns, 35° or colder. Im sure theres a difference warmer than that but none of us play good enough golf for it to really be a factor. I cant imagine anyone is playing that cold in Texas. But if you frequently play 95°+, i could see noticing a difference at 50° . @WNYTony are the scratches on my irons keeping me from breaking 80?

Well I often scoff at you for no good reason I guess I could see that, at 50 up here we wouldn't notice much difference. But as I recall you were also air mailing greens for a bit until you dropped down a stick.

My main problem with golfing in these temps is that it's hard for me to club up, then hit a soft shot.
I have one speed for iron swings, and often fly the greens. I was consistently 5 yds short on most iron shots Saturday using my normal distances.

I have one speed for all swings - that speed is ALL OUT ALL THE TIME. I often wonder how much more consistent I'd be if I could just lay off 10%

I'm with you, Tim. It works with wedges, but for some reason I cant do it consistently with the irons. Something to work on at the range, I guess

yeah when coming back shorter I just by default swing faster to compensate i guess. it definitely works - if I can make it happen - just cant

So, any of you northerners have those indoor driving ranges, or is that a canadian thing? I've heard mention of these things on golf forums, but cant imagine a full size indoor driving range. That cant be cost effective, unless I'm reading them wrong, and they're only 100yds long or so. Anybody have any insight?
