Also, it doesn't heat up nearly as fast as its much bigger brother? I find that odd.

It's the mineral content in the wood, which obviously varies from piece to piece. I think it's more noticeable with the smooth finishes than blasted. I assume while it may heat up quickly, it probably cools just as quickly.

I should have explained more thoroughly.
This freehand 55gr Morta stays cooler than my 115gr Morta volcano. This doesn't make any sense to me.

Andy, maybe the shape has something to do with the heat dissipation? Like heat sinks in electronics.

I got what you were saying. As you know, Morta can heat up more than briar because there is a lot of mineral content in the wood. I'm theorizing that the larger piece has a higher mineral content.
