Curious who breaks it down manually vs a grinder???

Manual between your hands like your rubbing them to keep warm. Plugs add an additional step where you have to cut the flakes off the block of tobacco. People say plugs allow the tobacco to marry together flavors more, and in the olden days it would keep moisture longer, cut as needed.

With plugs I let them stay in bigger clumps and rub some out fine to go on top to get everything started

I use a grinder for thick plugs after cutting up and heavy flakes that do not rub out well. Smokes so much better IMHO. I prefer my tobacco to be ribbon or shag.

i cut flakes into small cubes - super easy to pack & light. Cutting board & a sharp knife

I break mine up manually. I just break it apart bit by bit.
