Pipe Cleaning

So I found an old heavily used pipe a few years ago, and thanks to @Bostoneo, I'm going to start smoking it. I want to deep clean the shit out of it. I saw online the salt and alcohol method and was curious if anyone has used rubbing alcohol vs grain alcohol or any other methods that may work. Is rubbing alcohol ok or not??

i would advise against rubbing alcohol - buy the little bottles of everclear (its what I use).

Cleaned the old briar I found a few years ago out with Vodka, soaked the inside 2 days and scrapped out the unknown carbon cake (I know). Dried 3 days. Smokes and tastes a lot better now, just gotta build a new cake I guess...

I have some crappy flavored bourbon that I used to clean my estate pipes up with and it seemed to work pretty good. I know I won't drink the stuff unless it is mixed with Coke. Really need to start working on getting a pipe going and keep it going.
