New to pipes. Found an old one a few years ago cleaning out a garage and kept it. Pulled it apart and found this. What is it?? Filter or draw restricter??

Not sure. Don’t have one with it. I know some people just take them off though lol.

I never noticed a difference smoking a pipe with one, they do need cleaned more often cause they will clog up after awhile.
