Too late. At least out here in Az.

I've bought that before at a couple places around here. It wasn't ever htf. Just checked around online for fun, and even the big stores are sold out everywhere within the state.

Means it's now in the "gotta know the manager" and/or "be there when the shipment comes in" club, along with the Stagg, Weller, etc.

I need to rob a bank and go about 20 bottles deep on every good sub $30 bourbon. Otherwise I'm going to end up waiting in line to pay $60 for a bottle of Wild Turkey in a couple years.

I've never met a hipster who can handle bourbon. They usually stick to flavored vodka or Fireball for their 'whiskey'.

It's the ones who are pouring aged/premium stuff into diet Coke that kill me. I know some people are much more able to discern flavors, but I have a hard time believing there are very many able to pick up the subtle nuances and background notes that separate a good bourbon from a great one after they've mixed it with soda.

A few people might be able to, but it's probably pretty rare. The rest are just driving up the cost without purpose, when a $25 bottle of Buffalo Trace would have tasted exactly the same to them after mixing.

It's their money, but it screws the rest of us.

Dang kids.

Something, something, off my lawn, grumble, grumble.

Harrumph.

@bwhite220 told me all good drinks need some kind of fruit. Who am I to disagree?

Neat is my preferred way to drink dark brown liquid. If I deviate from neat and partake of a mixed drink like a Manhattan, Old Fashioned, Kentucky Mule, etc. then you better NOT put ANY kind of DAMN fruit in the drink! I will throw it at you while berating you with verbal disdain.

BTW, I was told that Weller Antique 107 is getting a price increase from ~$23 to $45+ soon.

$23 to $45?

I've never had the chance to buy for anything less than $100.
The only places around here that sell for MSRP I've never once seen it in stock.

And everytime I've asked a manager if they have any, or know when they might get some in... they laugh.

And laugh.

And laugh.

I have a couple shops that take pity on me from time to time, but I gotta ask and for sure they hoard it in their back room. I only get a bottle a year. They would definitely laugh if I asked for a Weller 12 allocation....that stuff goes to the heavy hitters.

I'm gonna say what sounds like Heresy to some of you, but I cant really pick up the nuances and differences in whiskey of any kind. Glenlivet scotch for example: I've had the 12, 15 and 18 year, and they all tasted the same to me. I either like a whiskey, or I don't. Evan Williams seems to be right in my wheelhouse, so I splurged and bought this. Hope it's as good as the regular production. Prices are high in this one horse town I live in, but at least we have a liquor store....

EDIT: for the record, I like mine with a little ice and water, no coke.

Yup, it's good. Thanks to my Secret Santa ( if he's on this board. I'd bet he his) for the badass whiskey glass. Forgot I had it until recently...1553641332835388015426914044184.jpg

My stepfather has a glorious wine/liquer cabinet. It was hand made in Denmark where he is from, he sailed it to the states with him many many moons ago... I was maybe 17 years old in a small town Mississippi, a few years before i journeyed north to Iowa. I didnt live with him or my mother, me and him were incompatible so to say. So i lived a few blocks away with my grandparents. School was out for summer, and it was a boring day with nothing to do. What do young punks do when they're bored you might ask! I was swimming at my moms place while they were at work, noticed that the kitchen window was open. Yeah yeah... Crawled through the window and grabbed a brand new 5th of Jack Daniels. I dont know how but i downed the entire bottle before waking up sick in my bed. My grandpa told me he found me half way to the hose with my pants around my ankles in a ditch... ever since then i cant stand to smell JD without getting the shakes. Evan williams, jim beam, does the same. Im having good luck lately being able to drink whiskeys again without it being overwhelming. Most Tennessee/Kentucky whiskeys still churn my stomach but i can down jamison or buffalo trace, makers mark is one of my favs. As the years have gone by, i did replace the 5th of jd back to my stepfather. Me and him have drank alot together and we now mostly see eye to eye and get along really well. Anyway. This thread made me ponder memories.

Thanks for sharing your story Gary. I've never been big on whiskey in general. I gives me one hell of a hangover. Scotch is even worse. Vodka and tequila for me mostly. BTW, JD is some nasty stuff, imo. Wont drink it at all.
