Smoke #5 from @Tyler86
Cold draw I got notes of leather and chocolate maybe cocoa?
1/3 starts out good with some cocoa, coffee, leather.
2/3 not much has changed flavor wise. Burn and draw are perfect.
3/3 a little pepper in the mix now and some oak in the background.
Not sure what this is but it's pretty good...might buy a single or 2.

This has been great, never really did blind tasting much before , but this has been a lot of fun. Just need to write my reviews when I smoke the cigar instead of a week later.
Thanks to @Dran for putting this on, and thanks to @Tyler86 for the awesome cigars.

Tonight #3 from @Sweemzander

cff52b87a944b714241c443a5c71a0ab.jpg

Prelight:
38-42 RG? Pretty narrow. 5”? Good news! Not plugged! Good cold draw. Only cold draw note is cow poop, or “barn yard”. Pretty veiny and dark wrapper.

Flavor profile was the same from start to finish. Cocoa, coffee, cream, strong spice. Burn was good enough. Smoked great. I enjoyed this a lot even though is not my preferred size.
Wouldn’t search them out but worth a fiver. Would definitely smoke again.

Reminded a lot of me the Henry Clay Cheroot or whatever that is.

Time to finish up my last smoke of this blind fiver. Had a lot of fun so far...

20190619_210308.jpg

This one is #4, I'd guess in the 6x56 range. V cut yields a bit of a tough draw, but the PD makes it passable. Pre-light, I'm already getting red pepper, but it's not as forward once lit. Wood, leather, mineral take the lead over the spice initially. I'm already getting the sense I'm liking this one, it's a medium-full profile, but not an expresso/spice bomb. Last blind pass I was in, I found a similar cigar, and swore it was MF brand. Turned out I was smoking my first Oliva V. I'm back to that same feeling, good Nicaraguan like MF. About 3/4" in, I notice a split running about 1" up. Hope I can smoke through it and it doesnt progress. Ash is white and well formed other than a flake or two at the split. Burn line is perfect.

As I approach 2/3, the smoke in getting thin for what it should be, suggesting the split is continuing, and sure enough, its keeping ahead of the burn line by an inch. In the dark now, and the phone is dying, so no flash on the camera... Ash still hanging in there until 2", and as @adamartinct described, like a stack of quarters. Profile picking up a slight coffee note, but not overpowering. Keeping a woody, oak note, leather fading, still some mineral. I spilled my water, but I'm not really wanting it. Not a cigar that dries you out.

In 3/3, a bitterness takes over. Not surprising, since I've struggled to get good smoke with the split. That usually leads to smoking too fast, searching for that good draw of smoke. Damn, this was a very good one to me.

On the construction, it was great. Like I said, ash very solid, white, burn line perfect. The humidity here was not ideal for smoking at 90%+, but I'd hoped the humidor conditions in low 60s RH was enough to get a good smoke out of this. I assume the split is humidity related...

Head inside to plug in the phone and the reveal. Like I said in the beginning, I'm confident this is a quality Nicaraguan stick. I'd bet MF, based on the flavor and construction, but will officially say Oliva V, since the MF line is generally above the price point we targeted for this pass. Part of me hopes it is something else entirely, as I'd like to have another great smoke to add to my collection. Definitely buy another, probably a fiver, and keep some on hand at all times. It's funny the profiles I find I enjoy most... the MF/Oliva medium-full and the nutty mediums are my favorites.

Cool. I've seen a lot of splits going on with the '19. Might have to grab some, and track down the '18s as well.

Many thanks, @Redneck_toy . This has been a great learning experience, and I appreciate the range of smokes you provided. I feel like I'm getting in the ballpark on these more consistently, but my lack of experience smoking multiples of any given stick hampered my ID ability. I've been bombed into oblivion at this point, and always am smoking NHIE singles working my way through the bombs. And thanks @Dran for putting this together. Smoking blind is a blast. Next one that comes along, count me in! Time to toast the completion of my part in this pass. Cheers!

Way behind on lighting these up but going at my own pace....
No complaints with a Corona. Looks like dozens of possibilities. Aroma & cold draw is earthy/leathery w/ a touch of spice.
1/3... plugged really bad. Same leather/earth & spice... hello redeemer tool.
Still a pretty rough draw on this. Tool didnt help.. 5 relights... keeps going out
..... and now the end blew up.. some rough construction on this.

What a bummer. Would not of guessed this was a Warped.. started off great. Been a few years since I last had a Futuro but I remember liking it

Prelight: Corona size. Leathery wrapper. Great draw. Musty cold draw is the only flavor I get

1/2:Sweet spices! Burnt sugar and cream! Yum yum! Faint floral and cedar notes.

Kids had a melt down after they went to bed. SHIT!

Relight:

2/2: still great sweetness, but more floral. Handled the re light very well. Burnt great.

Fantastic Smoke. Probably my favorite outta to blinder. Will definitely pick up a 5er of these. Yummy!

With the past week being almost 90% humidity or raining every day, I finally got to this one. Two left.

#5

First look: Rustic, veiny, double cap. Looks pretty Cuban to me.

0255A6F0-C32B-4F01-89F6-BD170809DD6A.jpeg

Smell: hay, hot horse barn (honestly)

Cold draw: hay. All day. Draw’s wide open.

1st half:
Billowing smoke. I’m getting cardboard, wood. Strange start.
Half inch in - becomes more floral, faint tart-sweetness hiding in the aftertaste. I’m liking it so far. Rose water comes to mind.

I accidentally hit it with my knee and it falls, ashing onto my bare foot. Yikes.

E9C64F62-3C75-4102-B17D-945A3A20786B.jpeg

Floral, wood and more specifically cedar.

I have no idea what this is.

2nd half:

Burn line is decent. Floral, cedar, brown sugar. Not much changing besides the little bit of brown sugar sweetness - which faded quickly. I push the band up, smoke it as close as I can. Cigar finishes and leaves me with a potpourri aftertaste.

3D6AF4EA-8048-422E-A294-D187BAB9B696.jpeg

Second half stayed the same throughout, with the cigar ending up being pretty one dimensional with floral and cedar yet still pleasant. Not sure if I would buy a 5er but I wouldn’t turn one down.

A NHIE! Not at all on my radar, I’ve only had the CAO Brazilia which was almost a year ago now. I swear the construction and caps reminded me of a RYJ Cuban. Thanks @gurgalunas!

Onto the third stick. Def the lightest color of the 5 I got. Cold draw & aroma were primarily baked bread, slightly nutty.
Pretty earthy & beady starting out.
After the first third, the leather & nuts show up. A very mild creaminess pokes in here & there. Woody notes in-between.
I cant tell you what this reminds me of but I cant help but think I've had it before. Def Nicaraguan, but milder than most.

Well, dang. I have had this before. Def may have to revisit this again at some point

Stick #4 from @Tyler86, pairing this with some peets Major Dickason's blend
f0b74c53f4b804302dc2aa26668069c4.jpg

Construction:
6"ish×52ish, dark brown wrapper, with a few rough spots on it. 1 big vein going the length. Firm, but not overly so.

Pre light:
Smells like barnyard and slightly sweet cured tobacco. The foot smells mostly sweet, but unidentifiable to me. Cold draw is a bit firm for my preference, and doesn't really give me much to go on.

1st:
Strong flavors on this one! It was going good and at about 3/4 of an inch it just fizzled... Smoke production became almost nothing, and what i was getting was mostly tasteless. I dont get many duds, but this stick was what i think is a dud example of a strong Nicaraguan company, one that slid through the cracks. Disappointing end to what was becoming a very good smoke!

Of course it was a Tat!! Ive had 1 of these in robusto before! Its a great smoke! Thanks @Tyler86!
