iam not sure, i always thought putting extra fruit in beer was a girly thing :p
Its kinda funny but you just add it to your beer but you don't need to get any juice out of it. It seems to add a nice tang to a wheat beer. I liked it so much I had to learn how to ask for it in German. It might have been a Bavarian thing.

Was going to say not once did i see a fruit garnish on beer when i went throughout Rhineland and Bavaria ;p Maybe on a Radler style? like shandies

It was only put in wheat beers. Maybe it was more of the town I was stationed in which was Augsburg. Just a little west of Munich and east of Ulm. It did seem to add a certain tang that I likes in my wheat beer. I also liked to swirl it to get the bits off the bottom. A good beer would be a little cloudy.
